EATS and SWEETS : San Miguel, Bulacan Culinary Tour! Part 1

San Miguel, the northernmost town of Bulacan, is known for its historicity as well as its many sons and daughters who have played important roles in the country’s path to independence. Biak na Bato, Maximo Viola, heritage and ancestral houses, San Miguel Archangel Parish Church, and Pablo Tecson are just some of the many names, places and things these town is known for. But aside from that, it is also known for its culinary heritage, especially sweets, from where the old name “San Miguel de Mayumo” came from (“mayumo” means “sweet).

I, San Josenyong Gala, was fortunate to be able to be a part of the San Miguel Culinary and Heritage Tour 2018 where a visit to the town’s some heritage sites as well as many food establishments serving culinary and modern cuisine was conducted. The food tour proved that San Miguel is indeed a culinary haven, and a visit to the town will not leave anyone hungry, or unsatisfied.

For those who would be coming to San Miguel, a visit to the following food establishment listed below, just the first part of a 4-part review of excellent food establishments of San Miguel, is a must!

AMAZING GLAZE/ GRABITES

Who would be able to resist these mouthwatering doughnuts? I certainly can’t!

I was very surprised to learn that the different donut flavors of Amazing Glaze was created through the imaginative mind of its owner, Cherlyn. According to her, her love for baking started when she was in high school and that love, or maybe we can already call it passion, influenced her heavily to finally put up her own snack house featuring her own creations.

Her donuts bring to mind the famous JCO donut, only with her own twist as well as being more affordable. Aside from Amazing Glaze, the store also doubles as a to-go snack house Grabites offering the well-loved fries, burgers, iced coffee, hot drinks, and even shawarma!

The donuts I have tasted are very satisfying with its soft bite and not-too-sweet glazes and toppings perfect to be paired with a cup of either hot coffee or iced drink. Amazing Glaze/ Grabites is located at the right side front wing of Prince Hypermart San Miguel near San Jose Church. They can be reached through the number 09175237637. Their Facebook Page is Amazing Glaze Doughnuts.

ADAM’s PIZZA

A hole in the wall pizza house offering affordable special pizza creations? Look no further, you may find it at San Miguel! Located just in front of the famous San Miguel Church, Adam’ Pizza, named after the owner’s eldest child, is known for their famous Bicho Bites and different flavored pizza.

Having a taste of their pizza will make one wonder if they are really just in a small pizza store in San Miguel or in a full blown pizza house. What made their pizza special is the crust which is not a pre-made crust normally used by many hole-in-the-wall pizza stores but was hand pressed and tossed dough by the owner of the store.

My favorite flavor is their signature Sisig Pizza. The salty and savory flavor of Sisig blended well with the crust and other toppings. As I have also tasted other flavors, I also recommend Adam’s Supreme and Hawaiian Pizza. Other equally tasty flavors are BBQ Chicken, All Meat, Pepperoni and Ham & Cheese.

Adam's Pizza can be reached through contact nos. 0927-1219-724 and 0906-359-4425. Their FB page is Adam’s Pizza.

MILKTEA NETWORK

It was already afternoon and our food tour is still not finished! After visiting the San Miguel Arch under the heat of the afternoon sun, we next went to a very appropriate place perfect to quench our thirst: Milktea network.

According to the owner, they started their milktea business at a time where many San Miguelenos are still not that familiar with them. At first, the business was struggling but after the people finally got to acquire the taste for their products, they started to do better and now have two branches in San Miguel.

The store’s ambience is very relaxing and the staff are well-trained. Their products are at par with other known milktea stores in the metro but is definitely more affordable, thus more enjoyable… and one can actually create their own milk tea flavor!

Milktea Network has two branches: 1. 64-B Tecson St., Poblacion, San Miguel, 2. Maharlika Highway, Old Sta. Rita, San Miguel. They can be reached at 0936-993-8283/ 0995-554-4417.Their FB Page is Milk Tea Net Work.
